The Fourth Amendment is Not for Sale Act closes the legal loophole that allows data brokers to sell Americans’ personal information to law enforcement and intelligence agencies without any court oversight.  As Justin Hendrix describes, there was  strong bipartisan support for the Fourth Amendment is Not For Sale Act at last year's hearing, but alas former House Judiciary Committee Chair Jerry Nadler never scheduled a markup.

But current House Judiciary Committee Chair Jim Jordan is also a strong supporter of the bill, and he's scheduled a markup session tomorrow (July 19) on HR 4639, the current version of the Fourth Amendment Is Not For Sale Act. If all goes well, the committee will advance a (potentially-amended) version of the bill ... a huge step forward!

Dozens of consumer advocacy, media justice and privacy rights groups supported FANSFA last year ... including EFF, ACLU, Brennan Center for Justice, Fight for the Future, United We Dream, and Freedom Works.  If you'd like to add your voice, Free Press has a page that makes it easy to Tell Congress to pass the Fourth Amendment Is Not For Sale Act.

And if you want to check out the markup tomorrow, here's the page on the House Judiciary site.
