Yesterday's news that the Supreme Court has rejected Trump's attempts to add additional mail-in ballot restrictions for the 2026 election is a great lead-in to [National Voter Registration Day](https://nationalvoterregistrationday.org/?ref=thenexusofprivacy.net). Of course, this is only one of the many threats to election integrity (see Freedom Trainers' [Election Defense Scenarios](https://freedomtrainers.net/scenarios/?ref=thenexusofprivacy.net) for a deep dive into the overall situation). Still, it's a big win, and significantly increases the likelihood that ballots will be successfully mailed to registered voters.

Including you, hopefully! National Voter Registration Day is a great time to check your voter registration – or to register, if you haven't. Washington state makes it easy, with [VoteWA.gov](https://votewa.gov/?ref=thenexusofprivacy.net). If you're in another state, [Vote411 has links to each state's offical voting site](https://www.vote411.org/check-registration?ref=thenexusofprivacy.net). Every year I talk to a few people who discover they've somehow been dropped from the voting rolls, so it's worth taking a few minutes now to check to avoid unpleasant surprises later.

And once you've made sure that you're registered, here are five other things you can do to help protect the election.

- Remind your friends, family, and colleagues to check their registrations as well!
- Attend election protection training with [League of Women Voters](https://www.lwv.org/league-management/events/lwv-election-2026-webinar-series?ref=thenexusofprivacy.net),[ ](https://www.mobilize.us/aclu/event/996672/?ref=thenexusofprivacy.net)[No Kings Early Vote](https://www.mobilize.us/nokings/event/1014450/?ref=thenexusofprivacy.net), [NAACP](https://naacp.org/events/national-election-protection-training?ref=thenexusofprivacy.net), or [ACLU](https://www.mobilize.us/aclu/event/996672/?ref=thenexusofprivacy.net)
- Donate to – or volunteer with – grassroots community-led voting rights organizations like [Black Voters Matter](https://blackvotersmatterfund.org/?ref=thenexusofprivacy.net), [Four Directions Native Vote](https://www.4dnv-indiancountry.org/?ref=thenexusofprivacy.net), and the groups in [Movement Voter Project](https://movement.vote/?ref=thenexusofprivacy.net).
- Sign up as a [poll worker](https://www.powerthepolls.org/?ref=thenexusofprivacy.net)
- Volunteer as [a bilingual hotline volunteer](https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdiFl6tIrFyVDkjo9M3T5f-R9bDB9ssIwT4fQ6KwopRhzFeiw/viewform?ref=thenexusofprivacy.net)

And stay tuned! I'll be writing more about election protection over the next few months, especially focusing on online organizing and fighting disinfo.
